Opallos: October Changes is the title for my latest exhibition at Closson Chase Vineyards which runs during the month of October.
The Greek word opallos means ‘to see changes of colour’. It is also the origin of ‘opal’, October’s birthstone, which flashes with colour.
October is a month of change. A time when the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier and the shortening, mellowing days play with colour: yellow, orange, green, red, and blue, just like the opal, October’s birthstone.
Closson Chase Vineyards’ lovely big barn is a great setting for my non-objective work. Their colours and shapes pop and glow reflecting the changing season in the vineyards: ripening grapes and rustling leaves set against greying skies and orange pumpkins.
In fact, my paintings work well in any environment. They respond to the atmosphere of any decor, their colours seemingly to change tone depending on the lighting and surrounding furnishings, whether rustic, like the warm tones of Closson Chase Vineyards‘ barn, or urban, like the cool tones of a condominium apartment.
You can see Opallos: October Changes at Closson Chase Vineyards throughout the month of October, daily 11am to 5pm.
